But then, I have never claimed to be a “good girl”… have I?? Well, I have tried, at many points in my life (believe it or not), or even most of my life, to be a “good girl”… but apparently I am somehow otherwise wired.
“Janet…keep quiet??” snort my ex-husband & children. “Janet/Mom & quiet do not belong in the same sentence. No no no no no.”
But you know?? I have played “good girl,” too. Believe it or not, I have tried very very hard, in a couple of relationships, & kept very very quiet indeed. Wildly, uncharacteristically quiet … Yes. I am not making this up.
And that didn’t work out either.
Laurel Thatcher Ulrich said, “Well-behaved women seldom make history.”
I don’t feel any need to make history.
I just need to be able to live with myself.
So…I guess I will keep right on making noise.
p.s. the day after I posted this: I DO understand that this post very likely seems like a complete non-sequitur. All I can say is, it really isn’t --- but I am not able to explain what I mean. Also, I did mean to add this, & forgot, that way back when (as they say), I had not heard the incomparable quotation “Be truthful, gentle, & fearless,” from Gandhi. Such inspiring & sensible words…
